Mambukal Resort at Bacolod

Saturday, 8th October 2011

Woke up about 6.30am, had a good breakfast at the hotel, and then waited to be picked up by Bro Ronnie and family to go visit the Mambukal Resort. We were really looking forward to swimming in the hot sulfur pool.

It takes about one hour to drive there, and is a tourist spot for sure. No wonder though, it is very, very beautiful. The first thing the children wanted to do was go swimming in the swimming pool, so we spent an hour or two in there until we, the adults, became too cold, and decided to go have something to eat.

Back at our hired table, lunch was being served up, and we enjoyed everyone's company again, although there was not much food for a vegetarian to eat.

After lunch, we decided to go for a walk to look at the waterfalls. There are seven waterfalls you can climb up to, so off we went. We included Matthew, Bro Frans, Felcris and myself. It was absolutely spectacular, I haven't seen anything like it in Australia. A magnificent place!

About half way up it started raining, only lightly so we kept going. After we had seen the third falls, it started raining quite heavily, so Bro Frans sheltered under a tree and Matt joined him. There was no room for me, so I continued on to find Felcris, and hope he had found shelter, but, alas, he hadn't. So we continued on, trying to find somewhere to shelter under the trees, but there were too many people under the only shelter, so we decided to go on and eventually we came to the fourth falls, and there, behold, was a shelter, thickly populated with tourists and “tour guides” who had got out of the weather, so that was not much help to us. We waited there for a while, and then decided to go back to the others. We met them coming towards us, as the rain had almost stopped by this time. Felcris and I were absolutely soaked and the others were dry! We watched a “tour guide” jump of the rocks into a pool below, and then a tourist did, the “tour guide” had to help the tourist to the edge as the water was flowing to strongly. Brave and adventurous or stupid and insane, not sure which, but it was pretty spectacular to see.

Coming back down was a slow process, as the steps were rather steep and now very slippery because of the rain, but we made it back down safely and joined the others, who had spent some more time in the pool. The children were very cold now, but didn't want to come out of the pool, so we eventually persuaded them to join us in the warm sulphur pool – that was just the thing we needed to warm up, so relaxing. The source is a spring from the side of a volcano.

After spending a delicious while warming up and relaxing in the hot pool, we got dressed and went back to the hotel for an early night. It was a wonderful day, great company and lots of fun and beautiful things to see. There were bats flying around the place and hanging from trees, and a Butterfly Garden, rock climbing, boating in the lagoon, and huge flying fox and lots more that you could have seen if you had the time and the weather had been better. Even so, it is definitely a place I would love to visit again.
