Sunday in Bacolod - What a day!

Sunday, 9th October 2011

This morning I woke before the others and checked emails. Noah woke up wet, which means he was not happy, so showers and then get dressed to go downstairs for breakfast.

When I went to check on the others next door, Eden had a cut just below her eyebrow. She had hit the corner of the bedside table during the night. There was blood on the sheets and pillows. At first I thought someone had had a blood nose. Mum said it happened at 2.00am, and she had cleaned it up as best she could, but then Eden had been curious and pulled it apart in the morning - "what's that Grandma?". We had a look at it and decided to put some steri-strips on it to try and  keep it closed. Not a very pleasant experience for anyone.

After Eden was all sorted out, we went down for breakfast, and the back up to our rooms to pack our bags. Bro Ronnie arrived just before 10.00am to pick us up and take us back to their house for the memorial meeting.

Once we were at Bro Ronnie's, he left again to pick up some other people, so when he returned we held the memorial meeting. Matt spoke again, on Waiting for God. Waiting is not just sitting there and doing nothing!

Straight after the meeting had finished, lunch was served, and a fine feast it was. So we were warmed and filled and enjoyed each other's company until about 2.00pm, when we held another study, this time on Genesis 14 – Abraham meeting Melchisedec. This study had to be short, as Bro Frans had to leave at 2.33pm exactly to catch the ferry back to Manila.

The Ladies!

Silas, Tala and Eden

At about 3.00pm we also left in Bro Ronnie's van to go to the NEW Bacolod-Silay Airport. Our flight wasn't until 6.45pm, but they decided there would be a lot of traffic, so we had better leave with plenty of time. As it turned out, the drive to the airport was traffic-free, and we arrived before 4.00pm. Everyone got out and waited with us, while Silas chased Tala around and around the seats, weaving in and out of people. The children were also chatting to some people they met yesterday, who had remembered them (I guess it's not hard to remember us – we're the odd ones out here!).

We said our goodbyes, and then went to check in. Then the bad news...our flight was delayed by 3 hours, so we won't be flying until 9.00pm tonight. The airport is pretty small, and there is not a lot to do here, so we will have to make the most of it. Hence I am typing up the diary to make good use of time, while Matt is with the children who are looking out the window at the various happenings at an airport.

Suitable food was found for all of us from the small deli's. I fought with the computer trying to get the free wi-fi working. There were a couple strong signals I could connect to, but it would not give me internet access. From what I observed from the other users there, they had the same problems. After a while the children migrated to the other side of the terminal where there was a TV, they watched “Who wants to be a millionare” in Tagalog.

Someone told us that there was free food and drink for PAL passengers because of the delay, so we went and collected ours (anything for a free feed), only to find the food was hot roasted pork inside a sweet bread roll. The ladies wouldn't try it, Silas had about three bites, I managed five bites. Felcris ate his but told me that it wasn't really very nice. But because they were free I made sure that we took them with us back to Manila.

The plane arrived and we all boarded. We were sitting in rows 12 and 14, just over the wings. It was a smooth 45min ride. Silas and I managed to safely bring the plane into land by using the volume and channel controls on our armrests, the knob holding the tray table for steering and issuing commands to the other passengers to do things such as “engage the mega-thrusters”, “nose up by three degrees” etc...

Felcris knows his stuff. At the airport the taxis and vans charge about 1000pesos to take us to the hotel. So with Felcris' directions we went upstairs to the arrivals and then outside to where the taxis were delivering passengers. We hailed a cab to the Shalom Centre, the fare came to only 150pesos.

We arrived at Shalom just before 11:00pm, Noah had fallen asleep in the taxi. Eden was almost asleep. We took our rooms and all went to sleep.
