Happy Birthday Mum!

Saturday, 13th August 2011

Happy Birthday Mum! We hope you have a great day today, celebrating your birthday in the tropics!

What did we do? Not much, which is why it all seems to blend in together. No, seriously, we spent the day quietly at the hall in the morning.  Silas and I went and took some photos of the passing traffic.

This afternoon Sis Tina went to her Sunday school. We visited next door, at Cesar and Laida Sim's home. Sarah and I were shown their wedding photos, the children were suitably entertained with Tom & Jerry cartoons.

Bro Jonathan and Bro Jodell arrived a little before 3:00pm. We all (six of us, plus Jonathan, Jodel, Cesar, Laida & Cally) rode on a couple trikes to a local sisters house where I gave a first principles talk on the Gospel & Abraham. Tina arrived with Sis Ruby at the end of the talk, Ruby works near Clark air base for a company that teaches English to Korean's via video link-up.

On the return journey we managed to have ten people on one trike. It must be pointed out that there is quite a size/weight difference between the average Filipino and the average Australian.

The local boys prepared a birthday dinner for Mum. One very large wok of pancit (angel hair noodles, soy sauce, vegies and a little chicken + a whole heap of other unknown stuff), delicious beef & cauliflower. All served with mountains of rice. Apparently, pancit is the "birthday meal" of choice here.

Sis Jinky returned from Manila as dinner was concluding. She returned with a gift for Mum (necklace), and a whole heap of handbags and thongs to sell to the local people. She is quite the business woman.

A nice cool wash for everyone, off to bed for the children. We held the Bible readings on Mark 8.
There was lightning in the distance and the promise of a cool refreshing rain – but alas it was not to be, so the evening was hot and stuffy. Fortunately the power has not gone out while we have been here, so the fans are a comfort.

Did I mention that the water is off in the mornings, so if you go for a shower early it will be a bucket and ladle shower!
