Fishing, Shopping in Lingayen, Bible Study at Bro Jonathan's house

Tuesday, 16th August 2011

Breakfast was prepared by Jonathan and Jodel, who slept in the hall with bro Jamie. The "boys" (as they are affectionately called) are great cooks. Jonathan and Jodel then disappeared down the road. When they came back they had worms, hooks and fishing lines to attach to their rods they had cut earlier, and they went fishing in the lagoon next door. Jodel caught one small fish, and stayed behind to catch more, while the rest of us went to Lingayen.

We caught a jeepney to Lingaen at about 10:00am for supplies from the Magic supermarket. This supermarket seems well stocked with lots and lots of things that we don't want.

While we were finishing in the supermarket Sarah went upstairs to the stationery store (which unsuprisingly has not moved since it was built) to buy sticky tape. She could not find any and was advised by the staff that they don't sell sticky tape!

After the supermarket we walked around the edge of the markets and then waited while Sarah, Noah and Jonathan bought apples and bananas. In the markets they made quite a stir – a Filipino man with an Australian woman holding a young child!

By now the sun was in full force, the meat in plastic bags was beginning to warm, so we walked to the jeepney terminal to head back to the hall.

We arrived just in time for lunch – Jinky had arrived just before us.

Most of us had a rest in the afternoon, I sat in the comfy chair under the shade of a mango tree with a nice breeze and prepared for the afternoons lecture/gospel talk to be held at Jonathan & Cathleen's home.

A short jeepney ride to Jonathan's house (which is in the same street as Jinky's). There were no interested friends there, so we did a Bible reading and discussed it around the group. A nice little merianda for all. The local children were looking curiously in through the window and doorway to see the “white people”.

Curious to see the "white people"

I just love the dark eyes and innocent curiousity

It was nice to meet Jonathan's little family, and take some photos. Matt mistakenly called Jonathan Jr magunda (beautiful) when the more appropriate compliment would have been guappo (handsome).

After saying goodbye to everyone, Bro Jonathan, Sis Jinky, Sis Tina and all of us Australians, walked back to the hall - it is about a 15 minute walk, which is nice to get some exercise, although the children find it hard to walk in the heat, and it was made worse by me asking Matt to take photos of all the sari sari stores named after people we know.

And this one too, perhaps he wanted to play with you Silas!

After tea we did the Mark Bible reading in the hall with discussion, and we tried to remember to slow down our talking, so we could be understood. Bro Jamie has a wonderful Bible knowledge, and there were never any quiet, awkward moments, that are most uncomfortable.
