Jeepneys, Trikes and Shopping

Tuesday, 9th August 2011

Not much sleep because the children (esp. Noah and Eden) kept waking up all night, they were itchy, they were hot, the mozzie repellent was bothering them, the mozzie nets are the problem etc...

After a bad nights sleep we awake to pancakes and scrambled eggs for breakfast. The kids are grumpy. We slowly get ready to head to Lingayen for some supplies.

By 10:45 we are on our way (after a short wait while Christina and Eden go to Dorcas looking for the hall key), sister Consuelo comes to the hall as the bodyguard while we are absent.

We all take a jeepney ride to Lingayen (about 15-20mins, and P10 each).

At the supermarket we buy bed sheets, sugar, 3pin-to-2pin powerpoint adaptor etc... Jolibee's for lunch. It started raining while we were waiting for Sarah to get an ice-cream for the children, so we took a short tricycle ride to the jeepney terminal (eight people plus shopping on a little 125cc trike).

A jeepney took us back in the rain.

We are back at the hall, Noah, Eden and Sarah are sleeping. There is a thunderstorm, I can't exactly see the lightning, but I can see the cloudy sky flashing.

Silas and I also had a sleep.

At 4:30 we got up and had a short wash, got ready to go to Jinky's house for tea. On the way we diverted to the Dorcas co-op. I was impressed with the products they produce. Sarah would like to purchase some of the charts to use in school back in Australia.

Dinner at Jinky's mothers house was accompanied by the Dorcas staff and Sis Christina. A very nice meal was served including a sponge cake (coffee flavour!). We were invited to help celebrate Sis Jinky's mother's birthday, she turned 64. She told us her mother is not here, she is in California, US, but they celebrate her birthday every year with special food.

We walked back along the road to the hall (15min walk) and then held the Bible readings with Bro Caesar and his wife (Sis Laida) (and little boy, Cally). Then off to bed.

Everything here takes so much longer to do than in Australia, the washing is done by hand, the dishes are done by hand in a bowl in cold water, going to the supermarket to get a few supplies takes half a day, fortunately we are not having to do the cooking, just buying the food.

It is very hot here, and humid, no air-conditionitiong, but there are electric fans. The sisters are looking after us very well, they are also sleeping here at the hall.

Hopefully Noah sleeps a little better tonight!
