Shopping, eating and more shopping

Wednesday, 3rd August 2011

Breakfast from the little restaurant alongside the Tropicana. The children enjoyed looking at the catfish and shrimps in the fish tanks. Sarah did not enjoy her chicken sandwich (sweet bread, processed/pureed chicken and mayonnaise), the egg and bacon sandwiches were fine!

Managed to get our phones working and get the wireless connection working on the computer – so now we have contact with the outside world.

Back to Robinson's for more shopping (stroller for Noah, more food) and lunch at The Old Spaghetti House (very nice food).

I hope that the stroller lasts us three months, we almost broke a wheel off just getting back to the Shalom Center.

I walked back to Robinson's (again) to buy a mobile broadband dongle. As I was walking down the street I got to see a police officer chasing, and catching someone. Wrestle him to the ground and handcuff him. Another officer was picking things up from off the ground (possibly counterfeit or stolen DVD's).

Contacted Ogi and arranged to give the exhort at Manila on Sunday. Also contacted Irene and arranged to have her accompany us to the Manila Zoo tomorrow.

Manila smells the same as I remember - affectionately known as "Manilla Essence". There is a lot more water, it always seems to be raining or about to rain, the roads and sidewalks full of puddles. The contrast of seeing a begger or a sidewalk food-seller just twenty meters from a five storey shopping complex full of expensive electronic equipment is a reminder to the paradox created by large cities in poor countries.
